Icelandair is retiring paper aircraft logbooks fleet-wide for Ultramain's electronic system

Icelandair is moving its entire fleet off paper technical logbooks and onto Ultramain Systems' electronic logbook (ELB) platform, a shift the two companies say will let flight crews, maintenance staff and operations teams share information in real time instead of relying on physical logs passed between departments. Icelandair expects the switch to speed up how quickly defects get resolved, improve the accuracy of maintenance records, and simplify regulatory compliance reporting, alongside knock-on gains for aircraft availability. Leifur Gudmundsson, Icelandair's senior vice president of technical operations, said the electronic logbook gives flight and maintenance teams "a more efficient way to share and access operational information" than the paper process it replaces. Ultramain, a New Mexico-based aviation software provider whose ELB platform is already used by airlines on five continents, framed the deal as reinforcing Icelandair's reputation for operational innovation. Icelandair operates roughly 60 destinations across North America and Europe through its Reykjavik hub, giving the switch to digital logs a fairly wide fleet to cover at once.
