A Halldale podcast-style preview, hosted by Andy Fawkes, ahead of the European Aviation Training Summit at the Estoril Congress Centre in Cascais, Portugal, on 3 to 5 November. Gilad Scherpf, senior director of aviation training development at the Lufthansa Group, talks about EASA's FSTD Capability Signature, due to apply from April 2028. He describes a task-to-tool approach in which designers start from the competencies a programme needs and then choose a device whose capabilities match. Scherpf says adoption will be voluntary but expects it to become the industry norm, as evidence-based training did, while questioning whether the added flexibility could create new planning difficulties. Cédric Coffignal, a training manager and CBTA/EBT subject matter expert at Simaero, previews his session on instructor standardisation. He describes a combined Instructor Concordance Assurance Programme developed with French carrier Corsair, shared between an airline and a training organisation, which the article presents as possibly one of the first real-world tests of the EBT outer loop. The item is tied to event promotion and ends with registration prompts, so its value lies in the two interview summaries rather than any formal announcement.

Ahead of EATS 2026, Lufthansa's Gilad Scherpf discusses how the FSTD Capability Signature could change training design, while Simaero's Cédric Coffignal outlines an instructor-concordance programme built with Corsair as an early test of the EBT outer loop.
